St. George Town SquareSt. George Town Square is a quaint historic area, located in the heart of the city. Many annual events and activities are centered in this area. You will find Southern Utah history, a park with water features, shopping, restaurants, and more all within walking distance of town square. Town Square is located in the heart of the St. George Historic District, on the block between 100 South and Tabernacle. More than just a park, it was designed for the purpose of creating a beautiful gathering place for the the city's activities and events, and is symbolic of a rich history that belongs to the area. The land at time square, formerly known as the Parade Park, was were the soldiers returning home from war were honored for their service to our country. The front of the Town Square features a 45 foot tower, with 4 round stained glass windows known as “Portals of the Past.†The windows depict historic events and people of the St. George area, and serve as a reminder of the town's heritage. In addition, the park consists of a waterfall that goes over rocks and into a synthetic stream, as well as a splash pad, with erupting streams of water. These features offer a popular attraction for the kids to cool off in the summer heat, with a covered picnic area nearby that allows parents to watch in the shade. Plus, a grassy festival area, and amphitheater seating create the perfect setting for town activities. . During the spring and summer months, Town Square is the base for Downtown Thursday Night, a weekly festival that is intended to provide a wholesome, family atmosphere for residents and tourists. White tents line the street with food vendors and arts and crafts displays, while live entertainment and fun activities for the kids create enjoyment for the community. Also, on select evenings in the summer, Sunset on the Square is held at dusk, where hundreds of people bring their blankets and lawn chairs to the park's amphitheater for the showing of a classic movie on a big screen. Major community events are also held at Town Square, including the annual St. George Art Festival, a large celebration that has occurs every Easter weekend. More than 100 jury selected artists from all over the nation are featured, along with a great selection of ethnic foods, and multiple varieties of entertainment. In addition, the park is home to the annual Book Festival, where books, vendors, musicians and food are provided in the plaza, and speakers and authors come to share in discussions about literature. During the holiday season, Town Square is the primary location for First Night, a St. George New Year's Eve tradition. Uniting the community, this lively street celebration provides a platform for various types of artists, musicians, dancers, and story tellers. Plus, food, entertainment, and a huge fire works display provide an enjoyable experience, while welcoming the new year. Town Square shares the charming ambiance of Historic Downtown. It is an easy stroll away from nearby restaurants, shopping boutiques, and galleries. Plus, the surrounding area has undergone extensive restoration, and includes numerous historic buildings and landmarks.
