Dixie State CollegeEducation opportunities in Southern Utah continue to grow, Dixie State College is a great example of the quality education available in St. George. Dixie State College is an institute with a pioneering spirit that has increasingly taken on the vital role in the economic development of Southern Utah. Dedicated to helping students define and achieve academic goals, they provide personalized and powerful teaching in an environment that encourages students to become passionate about learning. Established in 1911, the college opened as a result of great sacrifices made by the LDS church members to raise money for the building. Initially, it was called the LDS Stake Academy, and consisted of only 42 students who partook of a limited curriculum. Sustained and strengthened by the support of the St. George community, today, the college has Baccalaureate status and an enrollment number of nearly 9,000 students. Bachelor degree programs are currently available in Accounting, Aviation Management, Biology, English, Music, Psychology, Theatre, Integrated Studies, Business Administration, Computer Information Technology, Dental Hygiene, Nursing, and Elementary Education. Associate's degrees can be earned in General Studies, Graphic Communications, Management and Operations, Marketing, Medical Radiography, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Emergency Medical Services, Early Childhood Education, Criminal Justice, and Auto Mechanics.
